Scaling people powered finance to build resilient communities (core funding)

Grant details

Awarded on:10/09/2019

Duration:2 years

Area of interest

Local economic resilience

Several comprehensive research studies, including the recently released UK Government’s ‘Investing for a better world’ report highlight that 7 out of every 10 people in the UK want to use their savings, pension and investments to protect people and the planet. Yet significantly, they don’t know where to start, need more information and think impactful financial products need to be much more accessible. In contrast, 60% of UK social enterprises that are actively developing innovative approaches to tackling climate change, addressing inequalities and building resilient communities are struggling to access affordable capital. The rapid development of ‘Finance and Technology – Fintech’ is providing new opportunities to provide ordinary people with the ethical financial products they want, whilst also enabling highly impactful organisations to scale and grow by attracting affordable and flexible people powered finance.

What will the project try to achieve?

New digital technology and supporting resource will enable Ethex to deliver on our strategic roadmap delivering accessible financial products and offers which better meet the needs of community groups and emerging investors – building a more inclusive financial economy and disrupting the status quo.

Who might be interested in this project?

Social enterprises, charities and purposeful businesses wanting to raise finance. Everyday people who are motivated to use their money to create a better world and foundations and family offices who might want to look at blending capital in innovative ways alongside individual private sector investments in order to maximise impact.
