Bringing Local Economies Closer to Home: Far Nearer

Grant details

Amount:£47,500

Awarded on:12/12/2017

Duration:1 year

Status:Closed

Area of interest

Local economic resilience

Themes covered

Community resilience

Far Nearer documents local schemes building economic resilience in pockets of the UK that might one day result in systemic change and promotes them on its website and in the national press. It also seeks to transform this collection of stories into a network for collaboration, consolidation and conversation.

What is the issue?

We are at a turning point where practitioners in local economies must work together to create change. Far Nearer is the first non-denominational, politically neutral forum for these siloed groups to share ideas. By telling stories of local and regional successes, we can show how these groups are talking the same language, reach a wider audience and change the narrative around economics.

What will the project try to achieve?

Far Nearer will continue to gather stories of local economies from around the UK and to promote them on its website and in the  national press. But it will also seek to transform this collection of stories into a network for collaboration, consolidation and  conversation.

Who might be interested in this project?

Practitioners in local economies, academics, researchers, think tanks and journalists but most of all the general public: Far Nearer is a an outward facing project.
