The Climate Strikes are the latest in a wave of inspirational climate action being spearheaded by children and young people. They began in August 2018 when 15-year-old Greta Thunberg sat in front of the Swedish parliament every school day for three weeks, to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis.
The Foundation wishes to stand alongside other employers, investors and institutions that are playing their part in changing their operations and ways of working to try to keep global heating below 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels. This is the level considered ‘safe’ by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which states ‘global net human-caused emissions of CO2 would need to fall by about 45% from 2010 levels by 2030, reaching net zero around 2050.’
