Community Energy

Community energy provides an opportunity for engagement with the energy utility sector to develop new business models that are sustainable, resilient and incorporate community energy.

Community energy can make a significant contribution to local economic resilience and a fairer, more sustainable economy through the creation of shared, community assets, the retention of profits within a locality and an income stream for other activity the community wants to undertake. This in addition to boosting low carbon transition.

Community energy provides the Foundation with the opportunity for an integrated investment engagement programme as it lends itself well to both social investment and FTSE engagement. We have been able to link the Foundation’s grant and social investment portfolios to this theme to invest in a portfolio of community energy projects.
